Become a Winner of the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award

By Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of Health and Human Services

Posted September 15, 2010

This was originally posted on the Let’s Move blog.

We are proud to announce the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award Challenge! The good news is: winning an award isn’t hard. You don’t have to be able to do a back flip like Dominique Dawes or a triple axel like Michelle Kwan. You don’t have to dunk a basketball like Grant Hill.

To earn this award, you need to get out and move for an hour a day if you’re a kid, and for a half an hour if you’re an adult, five days a week for six weeks.

It’s as easy as going outside and taking a walk.  Or you could take the stairs instead of the elevator, or plant your own vegetable garden like the First Lady.  That takes care of exercise and a healthy diet at the same time.

Then, when you’ve completed an activity, simply log on the President’s Council website, www.PresidentsChallenge.org, and let us know.

We’re asking every American—from kids in school to their grandparents—to make a personal commitment and challenge themselves to sign up for, and win, a Presidential Active Lifestyle Award.

Our goal is to get one million Americans winning an award – and you can help us get there.

There are more than 300 million people living in this great country. And we want every single one of them to live a healthy lifestyle.

Having one million Americans win a Presidential Active Lifestyle Award by next September 14 will be a big step in the right direction.

Remember, visit www.PresidentsChallenge.org to sign up.
