What if I'm self-employed?
If you're self-employed with no employees, you're not considered an employer. You can use the Marketplace to find coverage that fits your needs.
Do I have to offer health coverage to my employees?
No employer has to offer health coverage. Some larger businesses that don’t offer coverage may have to make an Employer Shared Responsibility payment
Will I qualify for small business health care tax credits?
You may qualify for employer health care tax credits if you have fewer than 25 full-time equivalent employees making an average of about $50,000 a year or less.

Businesses with 50 or fewer employees may get employee health coverage in the SHOP Marketplace. Employers of this size aren't required to offer health coverage.
What if I already insure my employees?
If you insure your employees now, you can keep the coverage you have. If you have 50 or fewer full-time employees, you may offer a plan via SHOP instead.

What do I need to tell my employees about the Marketplace?

Can I use an agent or broker to buy health insurance in the Marketplace?
You will be able to use a licensed agent or broker to provide help or handle your SHOP business. You won’t pay more if you use a SHOP agent or broker.
