How to report a move

The steps youโ€™ll take depend on if you move to a different state or within the same state.

If you move within the same state

Update your application to report your change of address. Your coverage options and savings probably wonโ€™t change based only on your new address, but weโ€™ll let you know if you need to pick a new plan.

If you move to a different state

Notice:
When you move to a new state, you canโ€™t keep your plan
Itโ€™s very important to report moves out of state immediately so you can enroll in a new plan without a break in coverage โ€” and avoid paying for coverage that doesnโ€™t apply in your new state.
When you move out of state, youโ€™ll need to start a new Marketplace application and enroll in a plan in your new state. How you apply depends on whether your new state uses HealthCare.gov or its own website.
Get screen-by-screen uploading directions, with pictures (PDF, 398 KB), or follow these steps:
  1. Log in to your Marketplace account.
  2. Select the year you want coverage and your new state.
  3. Click โ€œApply or Renewโ€ to start a new application on HealthCare.gov.
  4. After you finish your application for your new state, youโ€™ll be able to compare plans and prices available to you. Pick a plan and pay your first monthโ€™s premium to complete your enrollment.
Note:ย If you're reviewing and updating your application, select โ€œStart a New State Application.โ€ If youโ€™re in the process of reporting a life change, select โ€œReport a move to a new state,โ€ then select โ€œContinue.โ€ On the โ€œMoving to a new stateโ€ screen, select โ€œContinue.โ€ Then, select the year and new state from the drop-down menu.

Update your profile with your new address

No matter where you move, you should also update your HealthCare.gov profile. Hereโ€™s how:
  1. Log in to your Marketplace account.
  2. Select your name in the top right of the screen and select โ€œMy Profile.โ€
  3. Select โ€œEditโ€ next to the โ€œAddressโ€ field. Note: Sometimes a more detailed address than the one you type in (like one with your full ZIP code) may pop up. Select it so weโ€™ll have your most accurate address.
  4. Report email and phone changes on your HealthCare.gov profile this same way.
